ADVANTAGES OF AI
Automates Routine, Mundane Tasks
There are tasks that are so repetitive that they become so boring. While work routines facilitate a more positive workflow, it does not provide enrichment for employees. Artificial intelligence can help in the accomplishment of routine tasks. This will allow employees to take on more creative tasks.
Never Tires, Never Complains
The human body is not immune to health problems. Not having sufficient rest can lead to problems in workplace productivity. A machine can run for an indefinite period. It will never complain. You will never hear it calling in because it’s sick or ill.
Error-Free
In an ideal setting, artificial intelligence is error-free. The only time errors will occur is when there is an inherent flaw in its programming. Erroneous data input and machine operation can also lead to errors. These are all attributable to human factors, not the AI.
Takes Risks
There are tasks that man will never dare venture in. The risks are far too great to “sacrifice” human life. While AI isn’t cheap, it can be replaced; human life cannot.
DISADVANTAGES OF AI
Job Losses
While AI can create jobs, it can also reduce employment opportunities. The most vulnerable are those whose tasks are repetitive or routine. According to recent estimates in the US, AI can provide at least 500,000 new jobs. However, it can also lead to the loss of at least 900,000 jobs. That’s a net loss of 400,000 jobs.
Lacks Creativity
The process of “creation” is something that present-day AIs are still incapable of doing. Of course, we can always program them to perform creative activities. But when it comes to AI “creating” something novel and unheard of, this is not yet possible. Creativity still resides within the human mind.
Lacks Improvement
Artificial intelligence may react to certain situations. However, if one changes the situation that’s different from its programming, there is a chance that AI will not be able to change its reaction, response, or perception. In other words, it will not be able to distinguish other bits of information beyond what its sensors tell it.
There are countless other pros and cons of artificial intelligence. Regardless of which side you’re on, this technology is here to stay.
